Sommartel is a boutique consulting practice that brings a fresh perspective and works as part of your team—whether for a single day or over a longer engagement. We help you pause, see the whole picture and move forward with clarity and confidence as you tackle complex organisational and social impact challenges.

Founded in 2019 by Dominic Kemps, Sommartel draws on over two decades of experience using data and insight to launch organisations, lead strategy, strengthen policy, advocacy and philanthropy, and design cross‑sector partnerships. Our consulting work supports strategy, performance, social impact and organisational development across a wide range of contexts.

Our work is guided by three core principles. First, we put people at the centre, designing and refining products, services and processes to improve everyday experience and, ultimately, results. Second, we look at issues from multiple perspectives—insider and outsider, and across sectors and disciplines—so that strategies and solutions are genuinely fresh rather than more of the same. Third, we treat intersectionality as a critical opportunity, focusing on where people, organisations, products, processes, technology, policy and the wider context meet, because it is at these intersections that opportunities to distinguish, amplify and deepen experiences and outcomes emerge.

Our core focus is helping organisations create or refine strategies that enhance results and social impact while making smart use of people, time and resources. We combine strategic consulting, facilitation and practical support to turn these principles into concrete next steps, clearer decisions and better performance.

Sommartel also keeps social responsibility at the heart of its practice, dedicating up to 10% of consulting time to pro‑bono work with organisations and initiatives that create meaningful impact. DOMINIC KEMPS

CEO

With over twenty years of strategic leadership spanning the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, I have built a reputation for rapidly understanding organisations and their real driving forces, challenging entrenched assumptions, and unlocking new possibilities. My career has taken me from top 5 global brand marketing agencies and some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, to technology and life sciences start-ups, and nearly a decade supporting non-profits, academia, international organisations, and the UN system.

My expertise covers strategy development for a diverse range of organisations—from FMCG and finance powerhouses to NGOs and global philanthropic initiatives. I have led cross-border initiatives and collaborations reaching more than 70 countries across five continents, developed multi-million dollar/euro/pound public-private partnerships that have reached millions, and optimised resources through both innovative fundraising and organisational restructuring for long-term sustainability. I am known for designing creative, “out of the box” solutions to address persistent challenges.

A voracious reader with wide-ranging interests, I take pride in my interdisciplinary approach—examining issues from multiple perspectives to uncover hidden value and opportunity. I adapt my methods to fit the unique culture and needs of each organisation and team, drawing on a proven track record of helping clients achieve ambitious goals.

I bring analytical rigour and a knack for challenging unproductive thinking in a constructive, sensitive manner. My optimism and strong belief in the art of the possible help organisations see beyond constraints and realise transformative impact at a pace that suits their context. Above all, I am committed to effecting meaningful, sustainable change.

THE
SOMMARTEL NAME

Grand Sommartel is a summit in the Swiss Jura mountains, rising 1,337 metres above the UNESCO World Heritage town of Le Locle, renowned—together with neighbouring La Chaux‑de‑Fonds—for its watchmaking heritage. For my family, Sommartel was a favourite destination for weekend hikes with friends and our dogs in summer, and for skiing in winter.

​

I chose the name Sommartel because I remember my (much) younger self standing on that summit, looking out at the Swiss Alps stretching across the horizon. Through the eyes of an eleven‑year‑old, the Alps—especially the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau—felt larger than life, their scale amplified by curiosity and imagination.

​

That sense of perspective sits at the heart of Sommartel’s ethos. Just as those mountains through a child’s eyes once seemed bigger and closer than they were, Sommartel helps clients step back, challenge familiar viewpoints and see key details in sharper focus for true insight. We bring curiosity, a collaborative spirit and a focus on practical results to every project, helping you spot new possibilities, build stronger partnerships and achieve impact that is both meaningful and lasting.
